The Cleanup Stuff® Christmas Tree Stand Mat is a 36 x 36 inch absorbent, waterproof floor protector that goes under your tree stand. It catches the overflow, drips and spills that come with watering a real Christmas tree, so they never reach your hardwood, carpet or laminate.

How it works

A fresh-cut tree drinks a lot of water, especially the first week, and every refill is a chance to overfill the stand. The tree skirt hides the spill, so most people don’t find the damage until the tree comes down in January: a white water ring, cupped floorboards, or a stained, musty patch of carpet.

This mat has two layers. The charcoal polypropylene top soaks up water so it doesn’t pool and spread. The vinyl backing underneath is leak-proof, so what the top layer holds stays off your floor. It’s a heavy, flat mat, not thin felt, and it also keeps the metal or plastic feet of the stand from scratching wood floors.

Square mat, round if you want it: scissors included

The mat ships as a 36 inch square, and a pair of scissors comes in the box. If you’d rather have a round mat that disappears completely under your tree skirt, center the stand on the mat and trim off the four corners. You get a circle up to 36 inches across, and you can cut it smaller to match a small skirt. Leave it square if you want the most coverage, for example on carpet or a corner placement.

Questions and answers

Will it fit under my tree skirt?

Yes. Most tree skirts are 48 inches across or larger, so the 36 inch mat sits fully underneath. If you want no corners showing at all, trim it round with the included scissors.

Is it big enough for my tree stand?

Most home tree stands are 16 to 24 inches wide, which leaves 6 inches or more of mat on every side to catch overflow. Measure your stand’s base if it’s an extra-large commercial stand.

Is it really waterproof?

Yes. The vinyl backing is leak-proof, and the backing is guaranteed for 3 years against tearing, cracking or leaking. The top absorbs spills and drips. It isn’t designed to hold a whole stand’s worth of water dumped at once, so wipe up a big spill and let the mat dry.

Should I cut it round or leave it square?

Your choice. Round hides best under a skirt. Square gives the most coverage and works well on carpet. Once it’s cut, it can’t be returned, so set up your tree and check the fit before you trim.

How do I clean and store it?

Vacuum up the needles, wipe or rinse the top, and let it air dry completely. Then roll it up, absorbent side out, and store it with your decorations for next year.

Does it work on carpet?

Yes. On carpet a spill soaks into the pad, where you can’t see it until it smells or stains. The waterproof backing stops that.

Can I return it?
